CUB wins $45 million in rate reductions in phone rates throughout Oregon. US West, GTE, UnitedTel and other phones companies reduce rates by $2/month.
- 1987 - CUB Endorses Pioneer People’s Utility District
CUB endorses creation of Pioneer People’s Utility District, an unsuccessful attempt to establish a publically owned utility in Portland
- 1987 - Lifeline Legislation Passed
CUB is instrumental in passage of Lifeline telephone legislation which helped thousands of low-income Oregonians maintain phone service and hearing/speech impaired citizens obtain the expensive equipment necessary to communicate using the telephone system.

CUB wins order requiring US West to refund $14 to each customer. This is the first utility refund in Oregon’s history.
