CUB Welcomes John Garrett, New Utility Analyst

CUB is thrilled to welcome John Garrett to our team as our new Utility Analyst. After a competitive hiring process, John stood out for his thoughtfulness, analytical skills, and passion for furthering the public interest through the development of sound energy policy in the State of Oregon.

John Garrett brings experience in energy development and policy. In 2021 he received his Master of Public Policy degree from Oregon State University. Here, his research focused on opportunities and challenges for renewable energy development in Oregon. Prior to this, he engaged in diverse conservation research, natural resource management, and multistakeholder collaborations. John also has a background in community advocacy, particularly affordable housing.

Reflecting on his new role at CUB, John said “Utility regulation is an important component of the ambitious and essential energy transition underway in Oregon.  As we develop energy systems for greater sustainability and reliability, we must also uphold fair access and affordability for all consumers.  I am eager to contribute to CUB’s legacy of advocacy for clean and affordable energy.”

In his spare time, John enjoys playing guitar, skating, cooking, creative recycling, and outdoor exploration. As a new resident of Portland, he is excited to experience the renowned culture and creativity of the city and continue exploring the Pacific Northwest. 

John believes Oregon is rich in natural and semi-natural beauty and wants to ensure that future generations also have beautiful places to live, work, and explore. He is honored to serve Oregonians as an advocate for clean and affordable energy, which he understands to be an essential component of the conservation and environmental justice movements.

Join us in welcoming John to the CUB team! Oregon is in the midst of a period of rapid energy sector change. This year is already shaping up to be a busy one, with many important customer protection issues already emerging. CUB is grateful to bring John on to bolster our staff and we look forward to helping him hit the ground running.
