Last Thursday, June 25th, on a balmy summer evening at the historic Widmer Brothers Pub, Inaugural Anniversary Club members met with CUB’s Executive Director Bob Jenks, along with other key staff, to discuss a range of important issues facing residential utility customers in Oregon. Consistent themes emerged, including CUB’s position on Governor Kate Brown’s thwarted transportation package and the ongoing need for our work to close Northwest coal plants.
By the end of the evening, attendees and CUB staff alike had enjoyed their fill of beer and appetizers. But most important, staff gained new perspective on the utility issues that matter most to members. Members, meanwhile, gained new perspective on all that goes into CUB’s everyday work.
We launched the Anniversary Club campaign in January of this year to acknowledge CUB’s 30 years as the leading advocate for residential utility customers in Oregon, and embarked with three overlapping (and ambitious) goals in mind:
- To engage our members while raising awareness around emerging utility issues;
- To celebrate CUB’s three decades of advocacy for residential utility consumers;
- And to increase membership support by $30,000 in 2015.
The equation is now, and has always been, remarkably simple: Strength in CUB’s membership equals stronger representation for all of Oregon’s residential utility customers. An informed, committed, and well-organized membership base is central to our work. And after three decades, it still holds true that when people join together to pool resources, big things can happen.
Big things have happened! With six months still to go in this year’s Anniversary Club campaign, we are over halfway toward reaching our financial goal. This is not only a testament to our work, but much more so to our members who, for over three decades now, have provided the stable and unrestricted funding that allows us to keep pace with a complex, ever-changing, and expensive regulatory and policy landscape.
Throughout the remainder of this year’s campaign, we will continue to explore new ways to reach our members while improving the form and function of our messaging. There is still plenty of time to join as a 2015 Anniversary Club member and support us reaching our $30,000 goal by year’s end. In fact, the next Anniversary Club Members’ Gathering is already on the books for early 2016! So join the “Club” and come share your views, in person, on how CUB can best represent your interests as a utility customer in Oregon. Visit our Anniversary Club landing page for more information on how to join.
