On Wednesday May 25, 2022, from 6-7:00pm, CUB will be hosting our virtual annual members’ meeting. This webinar, Decarbonizing Communities, will bring together four CUB partners working on reducing climate pollution in different areas of Oregon. Register for free today!

Join us to learn about the challenges and opportunities in moving away from fossil fuels in our energy systems. We’ll talk about community impacts, opportunities for change, and getting involved.

This webinar will include a moderated conversation with:

  • Nikita Daryanani - Coalition of Communities of Color
  • Aya Cockram - Fossil Free Eugene
  • Greer Ryan - Climate Solutions
  • Jim Plantico - Community Energy Project
  • Jennifer Hill-Hart (moderator) – Oregon Citizens’ Utility Board

What is Decarbonization?

“Decarbonization” is an increasingly popular phrase that means reducing climate pollution from greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are major contributors to our changing climate. There are many sectors involved in these efforts, such as transportation, electricity, manufacturing, and building.

Decarbonizing Oregon Communities

Over CUB’s history, we have worked to make Oregon a national leader in improving building efficiency. For example, the average Oregon home has seen its energy use (electric and gas) fall by more than 15 percent since 1990. In 2021, CUB helped pass the 100 Percent Clean Bill, which will make electricity emissions-free across the state by 2040. This transition will be a challenge, but it is one Oregon is up for. As our state moves toward all clean electricity, decarbonizing buildings has also become a new priority.

CUB is not doing this work alone, though. CUB has the pleasure of working with many other organizations to reduce climate pollution in Oregon. Each of the speakers joining us has been pivotal in decarbonizing Oregon communities.

As we work to transition away from fossil fuels in our homes and energy systems, there is a lot to consider. We need to ensure that communities at the front lines of climate change are included and prioritized in creating solutions. CUB is excited to showcase the perspectives of each of our speakers and how they are working toward community-focused decarbonization.

Register for Decarbonizing Communities and join us on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:00pm.
