The Oregon Portfolio Options Committee is looking for new Citizen Members

The Portfolio Options Committee (POC) is seeking new citizen members to represent residential and small commercial customers! Oregon law requires private electric utilities to offer renewable energy rate options to residential and small commercial customers. As a result, Pacific Power offers the Blue Sky options and Portland General Electric offers theGreen Source choices. In addition, although not required by statute, Northwest Natural voluntarily offers the Smart Energy program that helps customers offset the carbon impact of their gas usage.

The POC is the group appointed by the Public Utility Commission of Oregon (PUC) to oversee these programs of energy options to ensure that small commercial and residential customers are getting a good deal and that the programs actually deliver what they promise. The committee’s role is to delve into the details of the portfolio options, make sure that the utilities are managing them adequately, and make recommendations on program and policy changes to the PUC.

The POC is a diverse group made up of consumer groups (including CUB), public entities (such as county or city officials), individual residential customers, business customers, other public interest groups, staff from the PUC and the Oregon Department of Energy, and the utilities. The committee meets at least every other month, although the meeting schedule is often determined by work flow.

If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming an individual residential customer or a business customer representative on the POC, send your qualifications, your utility service provider, residence or business, and your interest to the committee chair, Rebecca O’Neil, Oregon Department of Energy, at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) by September 30, 2013.
