CUB Policy Conference Preview: Morning Presentation and Opening Panel

Are you getting amped up for CUB’s third annual Policy Conference? We sure are! Remember to register as soon as possible at the CUB conference page; this event has sold out for the past two years and we expect a similar turnout this year. In the interest of piquing your curiosity about how The Flexibility Challenge is shaping up, we will be releasing previews of the conference agenda over the next couple of months. Today’s sneak peak focuses on Bob Jenks’ opening presentation, and the morning panel.

The day will open at 8:30am with a breakfast keynote presentation by Oregon Public Utility Commissioner John Savage. We are very excited to have Commissioner Savage on board to introduce the topic of energy flexibility in the Pacific Northwest, touching on opportunities and challenges facing the utility sector in realizing a flexible energy future.

Following the breakfast keynote, at 9:00am, CUB Executive Director Bob Jenks will discuss the potential and need for achieving a cleaner energy mix in the Pacific Northwest. This presentation will explore opportunities for the utility sector and other key policy stakeholders to adopt energy efficiency measures and renewable energy alternatives. Bob’s talk will also highlight the importance of bridging these measures together to create a truly integrated grid that is sustainable, affordable, and capable of meeting 21st century demands.

We are very excited to follow Bob’s presentation with a panel of leading energy experts and decision-makers, operating on both the state and regional levels. For our morning panel, beginning at 9:45am, Bob Jenks and John Savage will reconvene at the table. There they will be joined by Oregon Department of Energy Director Lisa Schwartz, and President and CEO of PGE Jim Piro. Executive Director of Renewables Northwest Project J. Rachel Shimshak will moderate this esteemed panel of utility industry experts, who will bring their extensive knowledge and experience to collaboratively engage the questions Bob raised in his opening presentation. The panelists will illuminate the perspectives of their respective agencies, share stories and insights from their collective decades of experience, and stir up some creative thinking about how to tackle energy flexibility issues over the next 30 years. The panelists will then spend the second half of this discussion taking questions from the audience, ensuring that everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to help shape the conversation.

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks. Next up, we will preview our first afternoon breakout panel topic, Flexibility and Agricultural/Industrial Consumers: Tools for the Future Utility! (Is the conference already on your calendar? Register today!)
