Many households depend on natural gas for their heating, hot water, and cooking. But do you know which of your appliances will keep working if the electricity goes out? The answer may surprise you!
PGE Asks for Even More Rate Increases
Despite an 18% increase in January, skyrocketing bills, and heavy outcry from customers, Portland General Electric asked for yet another rate increase in 2024. CUB staff looked into PGE’s latest request and found that the increase was unnecessary and that PGE’s claims about it were misleading.
Renters’ Rights: Past Due Utility Bills and Preventing Disconnection
Many people in Oregon are struggling to afford everyday expenses. Unfortunately, some households have to choose between paying their energy bills or paying their rent, groceries, or medicine. Pacific Power Asks for 21.6% Rate Increase for 2025
This year, Pacific Power tried to raise rates by 21.6% for Oregon households. This is part of a troubling trend in Oregon utilities: companies are asking for more money more often. However, when she renewed her lease, the new agreement had her pay using a RUBS (Ratio Utility Based System), and suddenly her monthly utility costs were much higher! Fortunately, she knew to reach out to her friends at CUB for answers.
