CUB Bids a Fond Farewell to SA Anders

Today, CUB has a bittersweet announcement to make. Our Director of Operations, SA Anders, is leaving CUB after six great years. SA has been with CUB since 2009, and has seen some exciting changes at both Oregon CUB and the CUB Policy Center.

SA began as CUB’s Business Director, managing the financial and administrative aspects of the organization. As she became more engrossed in our work, she found opportunities to grow the organization’s programs and fundraising. In 2010, she collaborated with fellow staff Andrew Crosby and Ghassan Ammar on the development of CUB Connects, the first of its kind telecommunications service that provides side-by side comparisons of phone, internet, and mobile services for consumers. Working with the CUB Connects team, the project has grown from an idea to a full-service website, telephone hotline, and outreach program. Providing information for thousands of consumers across Oregon, CUB Connects has been a vital part of CUB’s consumer work.

SA worked to create CUB’s AmeriCorps program, in partnership with the Confluence Environmental Center. It has been so exciting to see the consumer outreach program our AmeriCorps members have deployed succeed: our AmeriCorps members have talked to thousands of people at neighborhood fairs, public speaking events, community events, and classrooms. The story of Oregon’s clean energy future has been told by Emmaline Pohnl, Stephanie Levine, and Heather Kendall, and SA’s mentorship and support has helped make their outreach a reality.

One of CUB’s key accomplishments in recent years has been our annual policy conference. Whether focusing on the Smart Grid or our Flexible Future, SA has been instrumental in realizing this event from concept to execution. For folks who have attended the conference, you might recall SA zipping by as she made the logistics of our conference happen. With support from Caitlin Lynch and Amelia Lamb, our conference (now in its fourth year) is the hallmark of CUB’s year.

SA also turned her eye to CUB’s fundraising work. Over the last three years, she has developed CUB’s grant program. She has written and reported on grants that supports CUB’s integral Transition from Coal program, and managed funding for CUB Connects and other programs. SA developed CUB’s Ursa Major donor program, working with devoted supporters of CUB to elevate the organization and invest in CUB’s long term policy work.

At the core of it, SA has invested herself in CUB, working tirelessly to support its operation and expand and grow CUB’s programs and funding. She has been a vital part of CUB, and we thank her and wish her the very best in her future.
