Activism, Policy and a Little Irreverence: Come to CUB’s 25th Anniversary Dinner!

A few weeks ago, we told you about CUB’s 25th Anniversary and the successes that CUB has had since Oregon voters created the organization by approving Ballot Measure #3 in 1984. At the end of the article, we mentioned the 25th Anniversary dinner that we are having on November 14 to celebrate 25 years of CUB’s successes and to launch the next 25 years and beyond. Now we’d like to tell you a little more about the dinner—it’s shaping up to be a great event.

Here’s the quick rundown of the November 14 event at the Portland Hilton in downtown Portland:

6:00PM - Reception - Hors d’oeuvres and no-host bar
7:00PM - Dinner served in Pavilion Ballroom.
7:30-8:30PM - Program

CUB isn’t usually the annual dinner sort of non-profit, but we think it’s important to take time every five years to note our victories and reflect on future issues. Five years ago in 2004, CUB members and supporters came away from our 20th Anniversary event saying, “I’ve been to lots of these events and this one was really fun.” We like to think that was because the evening was marked by strong supporters engaging in effective grassroots activism, thinking about policy, with a little irreverence mixed in. Kind of like CUB itself!

Well, our 25th Anniversary will be even better. First, former US Senate candidate and all-round policy whiz Steve Novick is going to be the master of ceremonies. Second, Public Utility Commission Chair Lee Beyer will share some thoughts about energy and utility policy and what Oregonians should expect in the coming years. And there’s going to be a host of Oregonians, including elected officials and policy makers, who are making a difference by holding utilities accountable and pushing progressive energy policy milling about the room as well.

We are getting very excited about the dinner and don’t want you to miss it. So please join us on November 14 at the Portland Hilton downtown. To buy a ticket, go here to download and print off a reply card or go here to simply purchase a ticket online. Proceeds will benefit the CUB Policy Center, which is a tax-exempt, tax-deductible organization. You can also become an event sponsor or a table sponsor. Contact us for details.

November 14 is quickly approaching—you don’t want to wake up on the 15th and realize you missed a fun, interesting and, dare we say it, energizing event. So clear your calendar and let us know you’re coming!
