Gearing Up for the Fall 2013 CUB Policy Conference

As the beautiful Pacific Northwest summer progresses steadily toward fall, we are busy behind the scenes preparing for CUB’s third annual Fall Policy Conference, The Flexibility Challenge: Efficiency, Renewables, and Demand Response. And we have lots of exciting updates to share!

Our first two annual Policy Conferences, The Smart Grid (2011) and Energy Efficiency: The Next Generation (2012) brought together many of the brightest minds in the region to discuss the most pressing energy issues of the day, and this year’s event is shaping up to be equally high-caliber. On Friday October 25th, starting at 8:30 AM, we’ll convene with an opening address by Oregon Public Utility Commissioner John Savage. CUB Executive Director Bob Jenks will set the tone for the day with his framing presentation, and he’ll be joined by Oregon Department of Energy Director Lisa Schwartz, Renewable Northwest Project Executive Director Rachel Shimshak, Drive Oregon Executive Director Jeff Allen, PacifiCorp Senior Vice President for Strategic Business Performance Andrea Kelly, and others throughout the day, engaging in a wide range of topics. Each is connected to the others by the challenges and opportunities facing all of us in the Pacific Northwest as we work to realize a clean energy future. For more information about the conversations that will shape the day, you can view an outline of the agenda on our conference website. You can also visit our Speakers/Panelists page to read more about these and other participants in this year’s conversations around The Flexibility Challenge.

We are thrilled to be partnering once again with the University of Oregon School of Law to host this event at the beautiful White Stag Block in Old Town Portland. In an effort to make our conference accessible to a wide cross-section of energy policy stakeholders, we are offering a few different registration pricing tiers:

  • Corporate: $300
  • Government/Self-Employed/Other: $250
  • Nonprofit: $200
  • Under and Unemployed: $75
  • Student (must register with .edu email address): $50

Those interested in attending are strongly encouraged to register early; this conference has sold out for the past two years and we expect a similar turnout this time around. Register today to ensure your attendance, and we’ll see you in October!

Hotel accommodations will be available by way of a block of rooms CUB has set aside at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Portland. Check out our Travel/Accommodation page for directions to the White Stag block and watch for information about lodging as it is confirmed!

For attorneys, we expect to offer several CLE credits; for those in the energy efficiency trade, we intend to once again offer BPI credits.

We are grateful to our confirmed sponsors and community partners who are helping to make this event a success: Pacificorp, Portland General Electric, Bonneville Power Administration, Energy Trust of Oregon, Oregon BEST, Drive Oregon, Solar Oregon, Northwest Environmental Business Council, Green Sports Alliance, Oregon Solar Energy Industries Association, and Climate Solutions.
