In December 2021, CUB held its election for new and returning members to the CUB Board of Governors. CUB Board elections are held every three out of four years. The CUB Board is composed of three members from each of Oregon’s (currently five) congressional districts. Candidates must be CUB members and are elected by other CUB members in their district. This year we are pleased to announce the re-election of CUB Board members Shelley Batty, Rob Brading, and Christy Anderson Brekken, and introduce newly elected Board member Reba Crocker.
Shelley Batty is a native Oregonian who has lived in every Oregon congressional district. She serves as the CUB Board Treasurer and on CUB’s finance committee, and represents CUB members in District 2. As the Finance Director for the Town of Lakeview, and a small business owner, Shelley brings a unique perspective to CUB. As Shelley wrote in her candidate statement, “The 2nd District is very rural and needs a voice in Salem on issues that affect our families and communities.”
Rob Brading represents CUB members in District 3 and previously served as CUB Board Treasurer and on the executive committee. Rob retired in 2016 from his longtime position as CEO of MetroEast Community Media. This role was part of a long career devoted to giving people the skills to participate in a democratic society. Rob brings extensive knowledge in organizational development to the CUB Board as well as advocating for progressive telecommunications policy.
Christy Anderson Brekken currently serves as CUB Board President and represents CUB members in District 4. She is an instructor in the Department of Applied Economics at Oregon State University. She teaches Agricultural Law, Environmental Law, Intro to Environmental Law, Policy, and Economics, and Food Systems. Christy feels privileged to work with young people from all corners of Oregon as they participate in our state’s governance and economy. And she sees that promise reflected in CUB’s work: “In my time on CUB’s board, I have seen how Oregonians benefit from CUB’s strong economic and legal expertise in utility policy decisions.”
Newly joining the board in 2022 is Reba Crocker, who represents CUB members in District 5. Reba is the owner of ROW Consultants LLC, a firm that assists local governments in managing their Rights-of-Way. She works primarily with telecommunications and also works with cable, electric, and natural gas providers. Reba looks forward to drawing on her experience in telecommunications to ensure that Oregon residents’ utility needs are met.
