As fall is finally in full swing, winter heating bills are getting closer. CUB staff has been hard at work fighting for affordable, accessible, reliable, and clean utilities for people in Oregon. This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to support our work for utility policy that protects your wallet and the environment.
We have seen some major successes this year! CUB’s advocacy has helped make important changes in utility policy this year:
- Low-income customers are now eligible for energy bill discounts
- Regulators partially rejected rate increases for PGE, NW Natural, and Avista
- Utilities are transitioning to 100% clean electricity
- Oregon is set to invest millions in rural broadband
As the cost of energy - especially natural gas - continues to rise, we need your support. Your donation to CUB will ensure your needs are represented in utility policy.
CUB is pushing for policies that protect households, not corporations.
Creating permanent low-income bill discount programs. In 2021, CUB helped pass the Energy Affordability Act with your support. This year, we have been heavily involved in creating interim bill discount programs for Oregon’s for-profit utilities. Now, CUB is working with the utilities to make these programs permanent.
Expanding programs that prevent shutoffs for low-income households. As the cost of methane continues to skyrocket, many households could soon face disconnection. CUB is working to create stronger protections so everyone can stay safe, warm, and connected.
Limiting expensive alternatives to traditional methane. Instead of reducing their emissions, natural gas companies want customers to pay even more for alternative methane sources, like factory farm gas. CUB is working to stop customers paying more for unsustainable gas.
We’re up against the largest utility companies in the state. Your support helps our advocates push back for utilities that serve the interests of people, not profits. Donate to CUB today to support affordable, accessible, reliable, and clean utilities for the people of Oregon.
