Spring is in the air; cherry blossoms line the trees on the Downtown Portland waterfront and at the Salem capitol, and the days are getting longer. Here at CUB, springtime brings a marked shift in work patterns: we are diligently tracking bills in the legislative session, our Energy program staff are digging into the latest raft of utility rate cases, and we are making perhaps the most exciting shift of all: gearing up for our seventh annual CUB Policy Conference!
Taking place on Friday, October 13, the 2017 CUB Policy Conference will convene policy analysts, economists, attorneys, utility staff, regulators, stakeholders, and others working in and around the energy industry to discuss emerging issues impacting the sector today.
Past conferences have touched on the topics of the smart grid, the changing climate, and the future of the utility sector unfolding right now, among others. This year’s theme, along with the skeleton agenda, will be announced within the next month or so, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, sponsorship opportunities are available at a variety of pricing and reward levels. Sponsorship is a great way to support this event and ensure your organization a seat at the table! Although this year’s conference will feature a unique theme, as well as panels and presentations that bring something new and different, participants can expect a few familiar elements from past conferences:
1. We anticipate starting the day with “A View from the Top”, a conversation with Oregon’s Utility CEOs. We are in the process of confirming this panel which may include the leaders of Avista Utilities, Cascade Natural Gas, Idaho Power, NW Natural, Pacific Power and/or Portland General Electric. Stay tuned for who will be gracing the dais with their presence this year.
2. We will also be presenting the second annual CUB Consumer Champion Award, to be given at the end of the day with a reception following. The Consumer Champion Award honors individuals who, through their industry leadership, policy innovations, and public service have contributed in a substantial way to the well-being of Oregon’s residential utility ratepayers. We expect to announce this year’s Consumer Champion honoree by mid-summer.
We are thrilled to be returning once again to the (newly remodeled!) Downtown Portland Hilton. Also as in past years, CUB will be applying for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits from the OR and WA bar associations.
More updates will be coming down the pipeline in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to our blog for updates, or contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to receive conference news by email.
