In 2016 I was an active part of CUB’s work that brought energy stakeholders together to pass SB 1547 the Clean Electricity and Coal Transition Act. As the Development and Communications Director, I worked closely with a team of communication reps from the 12 or so disparate stakeholder groups who were working towards agreement; which literally took our colleagues well over one hundred hours of negotiations to achieve. I emerged from that experience not only appreciating the process but feeling incredibly proud to work for an organization that powerfully influences reasonable solutions to difficult policy issues.
That involvement compelled me to become an Ursa Major donor ($500 or more). What I have come to realize is that CUB not only saves ratepayers money – but also addresses my concerns about the effects of climate change.
And I am not the only supporter who thinks CUB Matters…

I learned about CUB at a house party. We had a little wine and some delicious appetizers, listened to a presentation, and BAM - I found out that CUB really matters! They save me money by keeping my utility in check, and they totally get that we have to do something to protect the environment. Becoming a member was a no-brainer.

Two years ago I said that I give to CUB because they represent the values of Oregonians. And today, two years later, I continue to stand by CUB in their #GivingTuesday campaign.
CUB matters to me because they have a powerful voice to represent consumers in support of Oregonians’ attitudes toward clean, reliable, and affordable energy in our region. CUB supports the responsible growth of renewable energy and understands that the consequences of climate change will someday require a carbon taxation mechanism. This gives CUB the ability to use economic analyses to advocate for the closure of coal plants, minimize customer utility rate increases, and ensure a bright future for everyone.

I am a business woman and grandmother of five grandchildren… who I might add, are very smart, talented, creative, compassionate, and each have a great future ahead of them. CUB works to guard their future by making sure utilities keep rates fair and equitable. Most importantly, CUB also advocates for policy and legislation that supports the development of a clean energy economy. CUB matters because my grandchildren matter and so do yours!

No one can support every worthy organization that asks you for money. Why CUB? I support CUB because CUB makes a difference for ratepayers across the state. When you and I support CUB with a tax deductible donation it enables CUB to fight for fair solutions that put utility customers first. Without CUB our rates would be higher, and our voices would not be heard in developing energy and internet policy.
Pamela White – Writer of this blog – Oregon City
CUB matters. And though what we do is obscure and wonky, it REALLY is important! You see CUB has learned in our 30+ years of advocacy that the best way to keep rates down is through renewable energy and energy efficiency. It’s also what’s good for the environment. CUB believes that building a sustainable energy future means that energy is AFFORDABLE for all, ACCESSIBLE to everyone, RELIABLE regardless of where you live, and CLEAN so that future generations don’t pay the price of today’s consumption. From my perspective, one of these things without the other three is just not enough.
That is why I believe CUB Matters and I hope you will join me with your support by joining CUB as part of our #GivingTuesday campaign. You can join for as little as $5, but I invite you to join at the Anniversary Club level of $100. Whatever you give, you will be helping CUB make sure that your voice matters.
