Oregon CUB: New Name, New Look, New Tax-deductible Status

Over the years CUB has more than once considered bringing together our sister organizations, the Citizens’ Utility Board of Oregon and the CUB Policy Center. However the reasons were never compelling enough to make the kind of investment it was going to take to make that happen. That is, until now.
So after a full year of careful analysis and planning, we are pleased to announce that the Citizens’ Utility Board of Oregon (CUB) and the CUB Policy Center (CPC) have officially merged into a single 501(c)3 organization known as Oregon CUB. Legally effective on January 1, 2017 and publicly announced January 30, 2017, this change is being highlighted with the release of new branding, and a new website, whose address remains oregoncub.org.
“This change is a long time in coming and will allow us to better serve our members,” Bob Jenks recently said, “Becoming a single organization will allow us to save money by streamlining business practices, increase our opportunity for fundraising, and give us a hand up in staff retention by allowing staff to take advantage of student loan-forgiveness programs available only to (c)3 nonprofit employees.”
Additionally, this change has allowed CUB to tweak our name, update our logo and color scheme, and design a new website. What’s more, as a 501(c)3 organization, Oregon CUB’s membership dues, as well as other donations are now all tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
We do want to be quick to point out, however, that while we are very excited to make all these relevant updates, nothing we do has changed. Though we are now one organization with a new look, we are still the same tough utility consumer advocate and policy thought leader that you have come to know and appreciate. And we will continue in this tradition; offering leadership through thoughtful, innovative policy solutions, promoting the public interest by sharing our expertise and experience, and consistently educating and empowering Oregonians on energy, telecom, and water/wastewater issues.
Change seems to be the Modus Operandi around here and we believe this particular group of changes is going to be great. They provide new opportunities and growth while keeping the best of who we are: Oregon CUB - Your consumer advocate, protecting your wallet and your values by working to keep residential utility service affordable, accessible, reliable, and clean.
