Inaugural Consumer Champion Award and 2016 Conference Registration

It is with great pleasure that CUB announces the recipient of our inaugural Consumer Champion Award: Margie Harris, Executive Director of the Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO). Margie will receive this award at the conclusion of our upcoming October 14, 2016 CUB Policy Conference, The Future Starts Now and will then offer the Closing Keynote. A reception in her honor will follow.

Registration is now open for the 6th Annual Energy Policy Conference and includes the Consumer Champion’s Ceremony/Reception. Tickets for the Award Ceremony/Reception can also be purchased separately.

Taking place on Friday October 14, 2016 at the Downtown Portland Hilton, The Future Starts Now will explore once-futuristic shifts now emerging in the utility sector: transitioning off coal, increasing renewables standards, electric/natural gas fueled vehicles, and the need for energy storage that are no longer speculative - they’re here. The program is specifically designed to educate utility analysts, policy analysts, attorneys, industry professionals, stakeholders, and others working in and around the energy industry.

We will begin the morning with an Opening Keynote from CUB Executive Director, Bob Jenks and what has become an annual event: A View from the Top featuring a conversation with five Pacific Northwest utility CEOs. Morning breakout session topics include The Final Frontier: Has SB 1547 Changed Everything?; and Californication: What Do ISOs And EIMs Have To Offer The Northwest?. Our Lunch Keynote will be offered by one of our Public Utility Commissioners, and our afternoon includes the topics, How Will Our Solar Garden Grow?; Read My Lips: What Do Consumers Want?; A Brave New World: Rate Design For The New Reality; and Taking It To The Streets: At The Intersection Of Energy And Transportation. The day ends with the Consumer Champion Award winner and Closing Keynote speaker, Margie Harris.

With a B.S. in Natural Resources from University of Michigan, Margie’s long and prestigious career in energy conservation and policy making includes: helping to establish Portland specific energy conservation policies and programs, crafting Oregon’s first energy conservation legislation, promoting renewable energy at a regional level, and as the Energy Trust of Oregon’s first full time staff person and founding Executive Director, leading the Energy Trust to a place of national significance. Throughout her tenure in our industry, Oregonians have benefited from her vision, her passion, and her leadership in establishing significant policies and programs that have both protected and benefited energy consumers. We encourage you to join us in honoring Margie and her accomplishments!

This Conference could not happen without the strong support of the energy community. We are grateful to our sponsors who have already committed to supporting this year’s event, particularly Polar Bear sponsors Pacific Power and Portland General Electric and Grizzly Sponsors Avengrid Renwables, NW Natural, and the Northwest Power and Conservation Council. Sponsorship opportunities are still available at a variety of levels.
