CUB Welcomes Summer Law Clerk Jack Watson

On Tuesday January 14, the CUB staff was pleased to welcome back our Law Clerk, Jack Watson. We got to know Jack over the summer of 2019 when he worked as our Summer Law Clerk and he proved to be a great fit. Jack’s research and analytical skills and his passion for the work shined through, and he was able to help us secure favorable outcomes in several key cases. He is already diving back in to assisting the regulatory team and other staff to further CUB’s mission of protecting utility consumers.

Jack grew up in Reno, Nevada, and received a dual B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy, and a minor in Renewable Energy from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2017. He is currently a third-year law student pursuing an Environmental and Natural Resource Concentration at the University of Oregon School of Law. Jack learned about the function of the Public Utility Commission in a course in energy law, which also introduced him to CUB by way of an opportunity to volunteer at the 2018 CUB Policy Conference. Jack looks forward to digging further into the regulatory complexities that surround Oregon energy law, and hopes to gain some understanding of how legislative policy interacts with utility actions.

Prior to joining CUB, Jack was a Bowerman fellow with the Energy Law and Policy Project at the Environment and Natural Resources Law Center in Eugene, Oregon. Over the fall semester, Jack worked as a legal extern for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division. We are excited to have him back for the spring semester. After law school, Jack hopes to work in water or energy law somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

In his spare time, Jack loves travelling, skiing, fishing, whitewater rafting, and spending time with family.

Join us in welcoming back Jack!
