CUB is thrilled to welcome Ryan Tran to our team as our new Economist. With a background in climate economics research, he hopes to draw on his expertise to serve Oregonians by figuring out how to always keep them satisfied with the utility services they receive whilst meeting new challenges brought on by climate change.

As an Economist, he brings a wealth of subject matter expertise, a data science skillset, and a knack for finding creative solutions to mundane problems to what is already a well-rounded team. His past research covered topics such as vehicle emissions and household electrification, topics highly relevant to the current energy and utility landscape in Oregon.

Ryan once spent 14 months backpacking almost an entire continent. This burdened him with the firsthand experience of seeing the effects of climate change not only on the most forgotten corners of our natural world but also on a wide variety of different people and societies. With a newfound passion for working within this space, Ryan has since combined it with the training and experience necessary to tackle such a complex societal problem, which includes a BS in Mathematics from the University of Houston, an MS in Economics at the University of Oregon, and several years of research experience in the field of climate economics.

Now he finds himself at CUB where he can continue to do rewarding work he’s passionate about while putting his talents and acquired skills in service of all Oregonians. And he means all! Whether you’re a techy in Beaverton, a farmer in Pendleton, a drifter in Charleston, or anything else in between, you can count on Ryan to draw on life experience meeting all walks of life that are deserving of utilities that are affordable, accessible, reliable, and clean.

Whether you’re a techy in Beaverton, a farmer in Pendleton, a drifter in Charleston, or anything else in between, you can count on Ryan to draw on life experience meeting all walks of life that are deserving of utilities that are affordable, accessible, reliable, and clean.

When not working, he can be found in his beloved city of Portland marathon-training in streets and trails, trying new vegan restaurants, and browsing at Powell’s.

Welcome, Ryan!
