CUB Wants Your Input on Portland’s Public Utilities

It is City of Portland budget time! I have been diligently reviewing proposed budgets from the Water Bureau and Bureau of Environmental Services in preparation for an upcoming rate hearing before the City Council. Now, I need to hear from you. And CUB is making that easy by providing a phone briefing that you can attend from the comfort of your own home.

Please join me from 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, March 10th by calling 1-866-740-1260 and then punching in access code 1429768#. I’ll start with some budget process background and my initial findings. Then we’ll open the line for your comments and questions.

The goal is to develop CUB’s testimony to the City Council about the operations and rates of Portland’s utility bureaus. Concerns include adding deputy bureau directors, possible opportunities to recover full costs from developers for reviewing building and land use plans, and early identification of costly capital improvement projects.

Here are the details:

  • What: CUB phone briefing
  • Why: Your input on CUB testimony to Portland City Council at utility rate hearing
  • Who: Janice Thompson, CUB’s Portland public utility consumer advocate, and YOU
  • When: 7:00pm to 8:00pm, on Tuesday, March 10th
  • How: Call 1-866-740-1260, access code is 1429768#

Another angle at the upcoming rate hearing is telling the City Council how next year’s budget process should look different as they implement strong oversight recommendations from the Utility Oversight Blue Ribbon Commission. I can also give you an update on CUB’s recent victory giving you, as residential customers of Portland’s sewer, stormwater, and water services, the option to pay your utility bills on a monthly basis.
