CUB Kicks Off a Month of Giving for #GivingTuesday!

As we enter this season of gratitude and giving, CUB is thrilled to kick off our annual Giving Tuesday campaign. Over the next month, in addition to publishing important blogs about the work we do, we will also share with you why donating to Oregon CUB and joining as a member is important. As an engaged member of the #GivingTuesday network, we hope to join other nonprofits around the world that analysts expect to collectively raise in excess of $300 million.
#GivingTuesday is unique as a “holiday” in its ability to bring together individuals and entire communities to let nonprofit groups know that their work is important and valued. Beginning in 2012 as a global day of giving on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the US), #GivingTuesday is, at its core, a targeted pledge in support of public service. Initially raising $12 million for nonprofits worldwide, #GivingTuesday ballooned to $274 million in global gifts last year.
This is how #GivingTuesday works: Individuals and communities join forces in the name of public service with an understanding that even one small gift, compounded many millions of times over, can change the face of an issue or cause. In CUB’s case, this issue or cause is really a set of issues, each having to do with representation and advocacy for residential utility customers in Oregon.
Point being: CUB undertakes an annual budget-making process around this time each and every year. Our annual budget sets a course for our work in the coming year. And the truth is, the greater our annual funding, the higher the quantity and quality of our advocacy work, and the stronger our representation for residential utility customers in Oregon.
With this in mind: Over the next four weeks leading up to #GivingTuesday on November 27, be on the lookout for a series of stories here on the CUB Blog. CUB staffers will tell these stories in true CUB fashion – informing both members and non-members alike about our work and why supporting our work is so important to you and to all Oregonians.
In the meantime, you can give to CUB in the spirit of #GivingTuesday at any time. If you are already a CUB member (have contributed $5 or more in the past 12 months), take that extra step in 2018. If, however, you are a former member, unsure of your membership status, or entirely new to the organization, align your money with your ideals. After all, if you are reading this blog, you care deeply about affordable, accessible, reliable, and clean utility services for all Oregonians.
