The CUB staff made a bittersweet transition on Friday, April 14 when we said goodbye to our Operations Manager, Leslie Murray, who is moving on to other opportunities. Leslie has been an invaluable member of the CUB team since she joined us in June 2014. Leslie came to CUB from the Portland Parks and Recreation Department where she served as the Administrative Coordinator for the Summer Free for All Movies program. She also worked for the Blosser Center for Dyslexia Services as an Office Manager. Prior to that, Leslie built an extensive resume of nonprofit work in the arts world, specifically in community theater in and around Eugene OR.
At CUB, Leslie cultivated her financial skills by managing our books and then hiring and working closely with a CPA firm and payroll service to improve these processes and increase compliance with our auditors. She co-led a staff committee that evaluated and proposed comprehensive improvements to CUB’s benefits package in 2015, and also spearheaded the selection and transition of our health insurance plan as a part of the benefits evaluation process. Leslie also played a crucial role in strategizing and then executing the merger that transitioned CUB into one 501(c)3 entity in January of this year.
All the while, Leslie provided essential support to CUB’s program and administrative staff, including managing our annual audit, keeping our policy manual up to date, arranging travel for staff members attending and speaking at conferences both near and far, and helping run our annual energy policy conference and other CUB events. She has been an exemplary team member and an important voice in high-level discussions about organizational planning.
As Executive Director, Leslie provided necessary support for me to manage the organization. From budgeting and finance to ensuring that CUB equipment and systems are working, she has been critical to CUB’s success. Administrative staff rarely gets the credit and recognition they deserve. And, in Leslie’s case, she deserves a lot of credit. CUB could not have accomplished what we have in recent years without her.
We will miss Leslie tremendously, and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
