Regulators at the Public Utility Commission started an investigation looking into reliability issues with CenturyLink’s landline phone service. Now, Oregonians statewide have an opportunity to weigh in on the quality of service.
Here at CUB, we know that landline phone service is important for health, safety, and community. In an emergency, reliable phone service can be lifesaving. CenturyLink must be held accountable.
Regulators have been receiving complaints about the quality of CenturyLink’s Oregon landline telephone service, particularly in the Jacksonville area.
The company has ongoing service quality and safety issues, including:
- Dropped calls and phone outages
- Not reliably responding to service requests
- Violating safety standards for telephone poles
- And more!
Now, the Public Utility Commission needs to hear from you about your experience with CenturyLink’s telephone service.
Regulators ordered CenturyLink to make big changes to fully support customers in and around its Jacksonville service territory. Instead of fixing the problems, the phone provider is turning around and challenging the order. CUB is fighting that challenge and will work to ensure that all CenturyLink customers in Oregon have reliable access to telephone service.
CenturyLink’s rates for landline phone service are set under a four-year Price Plan approved by the PUC. The current Price Plan was approved in September 2018 and set to automatically renew last year. It allows the PUC to open an investigation into whether it is still in the public interest. Given the service quality issues in some areas of the state, the PUC granted an extension of the current price plan in order to conduct this investigation across the state.
