2019: CUB’s Year in Review

In 2019, CUB built on our 35 years of advocacy for Oregon utility consumers. And due in large measure to member support, CUB is well positioned to close out the year more resilient and determined than ever.
Some of our 2019 accomplishments include:
- Reining in costs through multiple rate cases;
- Analyzing utility pilot programs and integrated resource plans;
- Lobbying tenaciously for consumer protections via climate and telecommunications legislation;
- Advocating for utility infrastructure and service accessibility for underserved communities;
- Notching significant utility merger victories before the Oregon Public Utility Commission;
- Hosting our most successful policy conference to date; and
- Furthering the crucial work of braiding an ethos of diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything we do.
But this list only scratches the surface. It doesn’t acknowledge the small yet impactful victories like taking 10 or 15 minutes out of the day to talk through a billing or service quality issue – even if that means connecting the individual with a resource outside of CUB’s purview.
The above list doesn’t encompass the many hundreds of hours from staff poured into research and analysis, testimony writing, maintaining our website and blog, or commuting to and from Salem for various PUC proceedings or the annual legislative session.
What this list does clearly indicate is the tangible difference CUB makes as Oregon’s foremost utility consumer advocate.
With 2019 coming to an end, it’s important to further acknowledge that member support is what buoys CUB’s voice. Simply put: CUB cannot represent Oregon utility consumers’ interests before the Oregon Public Utility Commission and Legislature without their backing. And for this, CUB owes our 2019 supporters a debt of gratitude.
Thank you and happy 2020 from the entire CUB team!
