Medford Public Comment Hearing a Great Success

On Tuesday, May 14, the Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC) hosted an Open House and Public Comment Hearing related to the 4.8% residential rate increase that Pacific Power is currently requesting. Between sixty and seventy Jackson County residents showed up at South Medford High School to share their experiences with the recent rate increases they, and their families,  have already received from Pacific Power and their fears of what these newly requested rate increases might bring.

Your Chance to Speak Out About Pacific Power’s Proposed Rate Increase

Within weeks of Pacific Power’s 2012 General Rate Case (GRC) ending, Pacific Power filed again for yet another rate increase.  On March 1, 2013, Pacific Power filed for a 3% rate increase for residential customers effective January 2014 and then again later in 2014 for an additional 1.8%. Last night, PGE customers arrived at Jefferson High School in North Portland with signs and prepared speeches to express their opposition to PGE’s proposed rate increase.  Oregon Public Utility Commissioners Savage, Ackerman, and Bloom listened to the diverse group which included PSU and PCC students, representatives from the Western Farm Workers Association and other seasonal worker groups, small business interests, faith groups, and CUB’s own Board Member Fred Heutte. Your Chance to Speak Out About PGE’s Proposed Rate Increase

On Februrary 15, 2013, PGE filed a request with the Public Utility Commission for a 9.3% rate increase for residential customers. PGE already has the highest rates of any utility in the state that serves more than 5,000 customers. CUB is concerned that a rate hike will only make life more difficult for residential customers, who are already struggling.
