2011:Already in 2011, CUB has help negotiate an agreement designed to end 30 years of litigation over the allocation of federal hydro power benefits among Northwest utilities. If this agreement is adopted, it will end a fight that goes back to 1980 and allow the region to focus on our more serious concerns with our hydro power: protecting endanger salmon, integrating wind generation and adapting to changes in snowpack due to climate change.

2010:CUB gets Pacific Power rate hike reduced by $42 million.

2010:CUB protects PGE customers from being hit with unexpected repair bills when their meters are upgraded.

2010:CUB led the effort to phase out the Boardman coal plant rather than invest hundreds of millions of dollars in clean air technology. The PUC finds that this will save customers $200 million.

2010:CUB fought PacifiCorp’s rate proposed rate hike and won an agreement reducing it by $46.3 million.

2006:CUB saves customers from having to pay $18.5 million of the cost of the months-long outage at PGE's Boardman power plant. CUB helps convince the Public Utility Commission to reduce PGE's power costs by $8.59 million. CUB leads a settlement agreement with Pacific Power, which shaves $65 million, or more than 50%, off of the utility's rate increase. Citing the testimony of CUB’s witness, the PUC reduces PGE’s requested rate hike by $49.5 million, with the largest reduction coming from PGE proposed profit margin.

2005:CUB saves Pacific Power ratepayers $26 million by gaining PUC agreement to stop the collection of “phantom taxes” by ScottishPower, PacifiCorp’s parent company. CUB stopped PacifiCorp for charging customers higher rates in the winter and summer by lengthening the customers’ billing cycle. For Idaho Power customers, CUB wins a reduction of 86% off the requested rate increase.

2005:CUB organizes support for public ownership of PGE through a coalition of local governments (Willamette Valley Power) or through a purchase by the City of Portland.

2005:Texas Pacific Group. CUB leads the opposition to purchase of PGE by Texas Pacific Group, convincing the Public Utility Commission to deny the investment corporation's $2.35 billion bid. It is the first time in the history of Oregon that the PUC rejects a proposed acquisition of an Oregon utility.

2004:CUB wins agreement to reduce PGE’s power costs by by $3.5 million to reflect costs associated with high priced purchased power contracts that CUB believes are not prudent. CUB stops PGE from adding a surcharge to bills to collect $26 million from customers to make up for poor hydro conditions. CUB reaches agreement with PacifiCorp and the governments of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming to ensure that PacifiCorp’s hydro electric resources will continue to be dedicated to Pacific Power customers in the Northwest and not used to reduce rates for its customers in Utah and Wyoming.

2001:CUB stopped PGE from adding $2.2 million in rates for corporate advertising. CUB reduced PGE’s rate hike down by $4.5 million.

2000:CUB wins agreement to reduce Pacific Power rate hike by $60 million

2000:Trojan profits removed from rates. CUB settles lawsuit with PGE after CUB leads efforts to place referendum on ballot to repeal law that retroactively allows for utilities to charge profits on retired power plants. That law was passed in responds to CUB victory at the Oregon Court of Appeals which found that PGE is not allowed to keep collecting profits on the closed Trojan nuclear power plant. More than 1 million Oregon voters side with CUB on referendum.

1999:Stopped Enron’s radical deregulation plan that would have sold off all of PGE’s generating assets, dismantled the utility and sold off our hydro assets. Rates would have risin by $1 billion during the energy crisis of 2000-01 if Enron’s plan had been adopted.

1998:CUB wins agreement that ends the practice of having residential customers subsidize energy costs incurred to serve industrial customers, saving electric ratepayers more than $40 million per year.

1997:CUB wins conditions on the PGE/Enron merger that guarantee $140 million in rate reductions, maintain service quality, and require Enron to invest in energy efficiency programs, renewable energy development, and programs to protect endangered salmon.

1996:CUB gains largest electric rate reduction in Oregon history. PGE customers see their bills go down by more that $50 per year, on average.

1995:CUB forces Idaho Power to reduce its planned rate hike from 22% to 5%, saving thousands of East Oregonians more than $100 per year.

1994:CUB helped reduced by $73.9 the rate hike associated with closing the Trojan nuclear power plant.

1991:After voter passed Ballot Measure 5, reducing property taxes, CUB went to the PUC and got an order requiring utilities to track and refund to customer their property tax savings.

1989:CUB won an order requiring PGE to refund $37 million.
